Independent Verification and Validation

Quality Assurance

PPT provides quality assurance of embedded weapon system software development activities. We assess and audit both the processes and products developed by the system and software development projects from planning through deployment. PPT helps projects establish the project’s defined processes and plans and supports the project’s implementation, testing, and delivery of sophisticated weapon systems.

People: We have an experienced team with expertise in quality assurance and quality control. We have performed quality assurance of critical aerospace systems and mission critical defense systems.

Process: Based on our experience we have developed a 4 phase process that repeats throughout the lifecycle:

Identify key requirements, processes, and products to be delivered
Evaluate work products and processes against organizational standards and the project’s plan
Document findings and work with all stakeholders to reduce overall program risks
Recommend changes and process improvements to help minimize risks and increase program success

Technology: Our Quality Assurance processes are tailored for each customer and uses tools available as part of the defined engineering and development environments, such as DOORS and other defect tracking tools, such as Dimensions CM.

Identify- We work closely with the projects to quickly digest product and process requirements. We identify process and product areas for review, assessment, and test support.
Evaluate- We thoroughly review process artifacts and products generated from project implementation. We track these efforts to ensure both thoroughness and maximum customer value
Document- We use a variety of Defect, Action Item, and Problem Report tracking tools that are typically specific to the project we are supporting.
Recommend- We prioritize and track recommended actions and changes to help our customers and stakeholders realize the savings and improvements from these recommendations.

Task Experience: PPT performs the following services to the Aviation and Missile Research Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC) Software Engineering Directorate (SED):

Provide Quality Assurance support for various weapon system software development programs
Provide subject matter expertise to process development, audits and improvement activities

Independent Verification and Validation

PPT provides independent assessments of safety critical and mission critical systems. We verify and validate all stages of the development lifecycle- from planning through deployment. We examine all aspects of the system including technical execution, safety, security, data integrity, project management, costs, schedule, adherence to documented processes, and process improvement.

People: We have an experienced team with expertise in safety, security, project management, and process improvement. We have performed IV & V of safety critical aerospace systems, mission critical defense systems, and independent assessments for integrating new components into existing systems.

Process: Based on our experience we have developed a 4 phase process that repeats throughout the lifecycle:

Technology: Our IV & V process is based on IEEE Std 1012.

Evaluate- We thoroughly review product artifacts and process results. We track these efforts to ensure both thoroughness and maximum customer value.
Report- We use a “Scorecard” summary to ensure findings are summarized and communicated for maximum effectiveness.
Recommend- We prioritize and track recommended actions and changes to help our customers and stakeholders realize the savings and improvements from these recommendations.

Task Experience: PPT performs the following services to the Aviation and Missile Research Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC) Software Engineering Directorate (SED):

Provide IV &V support for mission critical aircraft Condition Based Maintenance system
Provide independent evaluation of impact of integrating ground based situational awareness system into Army aircraft
Provide independent evaluation of impact of integrating software-based radio system into Army aircraft

Test and Evaluation

PPT provides software module testing services to the most rigorous standards for the aerospace (DO-178B Level A), military, automotive, medical, and nuclear industries.

People: PPT staff is led by a software FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) with more than 20 years experience developing and testing high integrity software. With this experience you can be assured that our test and evaluation services will be completed to the highest standards.

Process: We understand the challenges of concurrently supporting product development and certification. Our services can be tailored to meet near term product support releases in parallel with more complete verification of the final configuration.

Technology: PPT has developed an Automated Test Vector Generator Tool (ATVG) which provides high quality software testing services to greatly reduce the cost of testing safety-critical and mission critical embedded software. Using this tool helps to:

Rapidly generate test cases that verify each aspect of every requirement
Provide better requirements based testing that helps to prove that each software requirement is correctly implemented in the software under testing
Meet the most rigorous standards for test coverage
Generate robustness and stress test cases to verify handling of abnormal conditions

Task Experience: PPT verified requirements, design, code, and test cases to meet FAA DO-178B Level A standards for Williams International. Also, PPT performed independent evaluation of aircraft fire detection and suppression system for Kidde Aerospace.
